Before beginning to read, explain why we are doing this. Why mark the text? How will this reading activity benefit student learning and their reading comprehension?
Reading Task: While reading “Teenage Social Media Butterflies May Not Be Such a Bad Idea,” circle names of sources and underline what the sources say.
In addition to circling names, circle terminology that is used to describe social media and the kids using it.
Give students 12 minutes to read the article and mark the text SILENTLY. (first reading)
Use your scanned vocabulary to help you understand.
Re-read the article. (second reading)
Make Connections to the text in the margins.

Read along with the CD.
Watch/read along with video. (the video skips act 1 sc. 2)
Stop after each scene to give students time to do their scene summaries.
